Phoenix Tony Ghelfi Will Miss Season
Wednesday, August 15th , 2001
The doctors have spoken and Tony Ghelfi of the Huntington Beach Phoenix didn't like what he heard. The 20-year-old starting pitcher is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Ghelfi sustained his season-ending injury during the Lansing Lugnuts game yesterday at Phoenix Field. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the Huntington Beach medical staff reported Ghelfi had a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and would be absent from the lineup for at least 14 months.
To date this year, Ghelfi has compiled a 4-14 mark with a 6.62 ERA in 26 starts.
