Top Player Named by American League
Tuesday, November 13th , 2001
The manager of the Baltimore Orioles said he thinks Dick Stuart is only going to get better as he gets older.
He may only be 26, but it will be hard to top the first baseman's 2001 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the American League Most Valuable Player Award.
His winning campaign featured a .301 batting average and a .374 on-base percentage this year. In 161 games he piled up 186 hits, 33 doubles, 2 triples, 68 home runs, 156 RBIs and 120 runs scored.
He received 2 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Al Simmons of the Seattle Mariners finished second in voting, while Darrell Evans of the Chicago (A) White Sox finished third.
