Colorado Takes League Championship Series
Sunday, October 21st , 2001
The Colorado Rockies clubhouse was filled with glee and celebration tonight, while the New York (N) Mets room was filled with despair and sadness after the League Championship Series concluded.
"Someone's got to win and someone's got to lose, we're just glad we're on the good end of it tonight and can enjoy this," said Matt Kemp, who was named MVP for a strong series of offensive performance.
Colorado won the final game by a 5-4 count at Shea Stadium and the series 4-2.
New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini was simple and to-the-point in his assessment of the series.
"They were the better team and deserve to move on," he said.
For the series, Kemp hit .385 with a .407 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 6 runs.
The Colorado Rockies don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Seattle Mariners - Minnesota Twins series. Seattle leads the series 3 games to 2. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
