Mets Advance to League Championship Series
Thursday, October 11th , 2001
The New York (N) Mets said they felt the Divisional Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks would go the distance.
But it didn't end up being that difficult, as New York (N) advanced to the League Championship Series with a 9-2 score, to clinch the series 4-2 at Shea Stadium.
"Whether it goes to the final game or not, we faced a good team and got the job done. It's a big momentum boost for us," said Frank Robinson, who was named series MVP. "We're all feeling good about our chances to win the World Series."
For the series, Robinson hit .500 with a .593 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 7 runs.
The New York (N) Mets will play against the Colorado Rockies in the next round. Colorado won their series against the Montreal Expos 4 games to 1. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Divisional Series finishes.
