Cardinals End Williams Streak
Monday, September 17th , 2001
It was the best of both worlds for the St. Louis Cardinals at Globe Life Field, as they defeated the Texas Rangers, 9-5, and also snapped Billy Williams's 33-game hitting streak. The 22-year-old Texas left fielder failed to get a hit in 3 at-bats.

"Nothing personal against Williams, we just wanted to win the game," said Cardinals skipper David Mandel. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."

When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Williams frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won."

At present, Williams is batting .346 and has collected 38 home runs, 108 RBIs, .398 OBP and scored 86 runs.
