Mets Get Extra-Inning, 6-5 Win
|
The New York (N) Mets and Philadelphia Phillies played an entertaining game for Veterans Stadium patrons.
The New York (N) Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-5, in 10 innings in National League action at Veterans Stadium. New York (N) pitcher Cory Bailey had a standout performance. Carl Bouldin picked up the save, his 2nd.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter George Scott came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Philadelphia pitcher Ken Howell, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York (N) on top, 6-5.
"Cory gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said New York (N) skipper Jamie Dagostini.
New York (N), at 73-25, is 12 games up in the National League.
