Minnesota Absorbs 8-5 Loss to Seattle
|
Getting a good performance from catcher Alex Avila, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Minnesota Twins, 8-5. Avila went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Mariners. Sam Jones got the win, improving to 10-7. He worked 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Bobby Jenks earned his 27th save in 29 chances.
Chris Brown, who finished 4th in the AL in on-base percentage with .408 last year, helped out the Seattle cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 2-run double. For the game, the third baseman went 1-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Seattle manager Tyler Jorgensen.
The American League-leading Mariners have a record of 66-35.
