Expos Win Nail-Biter
|
The Montreal Expos stopped the Baltimore Orioles, 4-3, in 11 innings at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The Expos got a big game from Eddie Mathews, who was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The win was credited to four-time All-Star Danny Patterson in relief. His record improves to 2-4. Waldis Joaquin took the loss. The Expos, now 61-36, have won 6 in a row.
Mathews had a game-changing home run in the top of the 11th. On a first pitch sinker from Waldis Joaquin, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Expos a 4-3 lead. It was the 29th home run of the year for Mathews.
"We're playing like we're capable of," said Montreal manager Marwan Najdawi.
