Twins Pick Up 2-1 Win Against Philadelphia
|
Minnesota got a strong outing from Earl Francis as the Twins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1, at Metropolitan Stadium. Francis yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 10-8. Brusdar Graterol earned his 19th save in 20 chances.
Pat McNulty, who finished 5th in the AL in stolen bases with 31 in 1997, helped out the Minnesota cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the left fielder was 2-4 with 2 singles.
"Even warm beer tastes good after a win," said McNulty.
The victory gives the Twins a record of 49-47.
