Mariners Lose to Mets, 8-2
|
New York (N) Mets starter Ray Bare turned in a top-notch performance against the Seattle Mariners at Shea Stadium. The result was a win for the Mets, 8-2. In 5.1 innings, Bare surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. The first-place Mets, at 68-25, lead the National League by 11½ games.
Charlie Moore hit a 2-run double off Andy Benes in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Mets in front, 3-2. In addition to the double, Moore had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.
