Rivas Shines in 9-5 Philadelphia Win
|
The Philadelphia Phillies knocked off the Minnesota Twins, 9-5, at Metropolitan Stadium. Luis Rivas was a big reason Philadelphia won. The second baseman went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 4 runs. Joe Coleman got the win, improving to 12-6. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Philadelphia is now 49-44, Minnesota 47-47.
Philadelphia used the hitting of Ketel Marte to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Phillies on top, 4-0. For the game, Marte had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We came out with clear minds and swung the bats well," said Philadelphia manager Jason Spiegel.
