Guardians Hand Minnesota 3-1 Loss
|
Starting pitcher Derek Holland gave the Cleveland Guardians a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Minnesota Twins, 3-1, at League Park. Holland got the win, improving to 5-7. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. The loss makes Minnesota 46-46.
Michael Brantley had a big 2-run double for the Guardians in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from 35-year old right-handed pitcher Mike Ryba and swatted a double to left. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Guardians ahead, 3-0.
"It's good to win," Holland told the Cleveland Herald. "I like to have fun doing it."
