New York (N) Absorbs 5-1 Loss to Chicago (N)
|
The Chicago (N) Cubs beat the New York (N) Mets, 5-1, at Wrigley Field. Starting pitcher Kirk Rueter was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. New York (N), with the loss, is still a stout 7-2.
Matt Williams, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins above replacement with 6.6 last year, chipped in a 2-run home run for Chicago (N) in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Rueter told the Chicago (N) Daily News.
