New York (N) Upended by Colorado , 2-0
|
The Colorado Rockies picked up a win at Coors Field, courtesy of Boots Poffenberger. The right-hander helped his team stop the New York (N) Mets, 2-0. Greg Bollo notched his 7th save in 7 chances. The Rockies saw their win-loss record go to 50-39. At the same time, the Mets fell to 64-22.
Snuffy Stirnweiss had a big solo home run for the Rockies in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Colorado leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a curveball from Don Drysdale, who is on pace to win 23 games this season, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Rockies on top, 2-0.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Stirnweiss.
