The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago (N) Cubs, 8-2, at Chase Field. Arizona center fielder Jay Bruce had an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Arizona starter Matt Young was credited with the win after throwing 100 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 7-5. With the win, the Diamondbacks sit at 45-41.

The Cubs had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Diamondbacks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old second baseman Geraldo Perdomo came to the plate. Perdomo hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 slider from Chicago (N) hurler Sammy Ellis. It was Perdomo's 13th double of the year.

"If it's down the middle," said Bruce, "you might as well hit it."
