Rockies Suffer 8-6 Road Loss
A good performance from third baseman Mike Schmidt helped the New York (N) Mets defeat the Colorado Rockies, 8-6. Schmidt went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Mets. The winner in relief was Carl Bouldin. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Bill Gogolewski earned the save, his 26th in 27 tries.

Jeff Kent, who finished 3rd in the NL in doubles with 46 in 1992, helped out the New York (N) cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the first baseman went 1 for 4.
