Tapani Muzzles Cleveland Bats
|
The Cleveland Guardians were almost helpless in their 5-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles and hurler Kevin Tapani. Tapani kept the Guardians confused all game, spinning a 6-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Tapani," Cleveland manager Barry Jackson said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 31-year-old right-hander had no walks and 6 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Tapani said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
To date this season, Tapani has registered 16 starts, 7-4 won-lost mark, 4.19 ERA, 103 IP, 80 strikeouts and 22 walks. Opposing teams have hit .274 against him.
