Expos Win at Home, 4-1
|
Doug McWeeny, who is tied for 7th in the NL in strikeouts with 88, imposed his will on the Cubs from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 4-1 Montreal triumph. Danny Patterson notched his 7th save in 8 chances. By defeating Chicago (N), the second-place Expos improved to 44-29.
George Shuba, who finished 2nd in the NL in home runs with 40 in 1985, took Chicago (N) hurler Tommy Milone deep in the bottom of the second. His 2-run home run put the Expos on top, 2-1. In all, Shuba had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 2.
"Makes our job easier," said Shuba, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
