Yankees Earn Late Win
|
The New York (A) Yankees outlasted the Seattle Mariners, 9-8, in 14 innings. Jorge Alfaro provided some punch at the plate for New York (A). He went 4-6 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner in relief was Dave Von Ohlen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-0. New York (A) has won 3 straight, while Seattle has lost 3 in a row.
New York (A) used the timely hitting of Julio Lugo to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 14th inning to put the Yankees on top, 9-8. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said New York (A) manager Brett Fogerson.
