Red Sox Best Cubs in Pitching Duel
|
Wrigley Field was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
Aaron Small was nothing short of phenomenal for the Boston Red Sox. The 31-year-old right-hander was a big reason his team beat the Chicago (N) Cubs, 2-1. The winner was Small. He threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Kirk Rueter.
Skip Schumaker, who is tied for 7th in the AL in hits with 83, had a direct impact on the outcome. Schumaker contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put Boston up, 2-1.
"The old adage is true," said Schumaker. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
The last-place Red Sox now have a record of 26-47.
