Minnesota Absorbs 5-1 Loss to St. Louis
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Chris George turned in a top-notch performance against the Minnesota Twins at Metropolitan Stadium. The result was a win for the Cardinals, 5-1. George yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-7. St. Louis, at 26-47, occupies last place in the National League.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Larry Whisenton? The 24-year old left fielder Whisenton stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put St. Louis up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said George.
