Marlins Rally Late to Nip Mariners
|
Getting a good performance from right fielder Alex Dickerson, the Miami Marlins defeated the Seattle Mariners, 8-7. Dickerson went 2-3 with a double and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Marlins. Ben Blomdahl picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-4. Larry Miller was tagged with the loss. David Robertson earned the save for Miami, his 13th of the year.
Had Buddy Lewis not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Lewis hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Marlins.
Marlins manager Bobby K wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
With the win, the Marlins improved to 29-41.
