White Gets 5 Hits
|
Frank White was at the head of a Philadelphia Phillies hit parade at Rogers Centre. The 27-year-old went to the plate 5 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Seattle Mariners that marched off with the 5-2 win.
"We didn't have it today," griped Phillies skipper Jason Spiegel following the game. "Frank did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."
White did more than fine, dominating the Mariners at the plate during his record-making 5-for-5 performance.
"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging first baseman told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
Frank White singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far in 2001, White is hitting .310 with 13 home runs, 59 RBIs, 46 runs scored and has compiled a .362 OBP.
