New York (N) Upended by Minnesota, 3-2
Carl Hubbell, who led the AL in innings pitched with 281.2 in 1998, pitched well, but the New York (N) Mets still fell short, losing, 3-2, to the Minnesota Twins at Metropolitan Stadium. Earl Francis earned the win for Minnesota. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 7-7. Picking up his 11th save was 28-year old right-handed pitcher Brusdar Graterol.

The Mets had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Twins going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old left fielder Pat McNulty came to the plate. McNulty hit a solo home run on a first pitch fastball from New York (N) hurler Carl Hubbell. It was McNulty's 7th home run of the year.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini said, following the tough loss.

Today's win puts Minnesota at 29-37, while New York (N) falls to 47-18.
