Cleveland Decked, 7-3, by Mariners
|
Wendell Magee powered the Seattle Mariners to a win over the Cleveland Guardians. The final score was 7-3. The Seattle right fielder, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1999 draft, was a force to be reckoned with. He banged out 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. Dustin Hermanson, the winner, is now 5-2. He struck out 5 and walked 3 over 6 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Clyde King earned the save for Seattle, his 1st of the year.
The Mariners got a big at-bat from first baseman Don Mattingly. For the game, Mattingly went 1-4 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 21st double of the season gave Seattle a 4-3 lead.
"The guys are feeling pretty good about where they're at right now," said Mariners manager Tyler Jorgensen. "We have a lot of guys playing with confidence."
Now 41-24, the Mariners have won 11 games in a row.
