San Francisco Earn 4-3 Victory at Chase Field
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Chase Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2001 Fellowship of Respect and Trust season. On the mound was Phil Ortega for the visiting San Francisco Giants and Frank Baumann for the hometown Arizona Diamondbacks. In a spirited contest, the Giants pulled out the win, defeating the Diamondbacks by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Frank Baumann.
Joe Hauser, who finished 2nd in the AL in runs with 119 in 1997, had a direct impact on the outcome. Hauser contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put San Francisco up, 4-1.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Hauser. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
