Cubs Improve to 30-29 with 9-4 Win
|
Enthusiastic fans came out to support the home team at Wrigley Field.
The Chicago (N) Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-4. Catcher Bob Tillman deserved a large share of the credit. Tillman went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs for the Cubs. Kirk Rueter, who is tied for 4th in the NL in quality starts with 7, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
A key moment came with one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Tillman hit a slider from Milo Candini for a 2-run single, putting Chicago (N) up, 5-3.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Tillman.
The defeat makes St. Louis 21-38.
