Giants Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The San Francisco Giants faced a tough opponent in Cleveland pitcher David Wells, but still scratched out a win at League Park by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Wells went 8.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. San Francisco reliever Garrett Olson was the winner. His record is now 2-1. Lee Griffeth took the loss. The slumping Guardians have dropped 8 in a row.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Dave McCarty to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Giants on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments, McCarty said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
