Red Sox Finish Off Diamondbacks in 12
|
The Boston Red Sox beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1, in 12 innings. Boston pitcher and San Antonio, Texas, native Gary Bell led the way. The winner was Boston reliever Raul Alcantara, now 3-0. The loser was Shawn Tolleson. The last-place Red Sox improved to 20-33.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Boston left fielder Skip Schumaker, facing Shawn Tolleson, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Red Sox the 2-1 win.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Schumaker said in his postgame press conference.
