The Arizona Diamondbacks topped the Boston Red Sox, 7-5, in National League action at Fenway Park. The standout performance belonged to Arizona pitcher and Pasadena, Texas, native Matt Young. Young, now 4-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. The win hiked the Arizona record to 27-22.

The Diamondbacks got a big hit from first baseman Jim Bottomley. Facing Boston pitcher Mike Mimbs in the top of the fifth, Bottomley pounded a run-scoring double to center. His 12th double of the season put the Diamondbacks ahead, 4-2.

"We have a lot of confidence in Matt," said Arizona manager Alex Baxter.
