Cardinals Rough Up Astros, 12-3
|
Behind a solid performance from shortstop John Valentin, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Houston Astros, 12-3. Valentin went 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 5 for the Cardinals. Milo Candini earned the win, while 25-year old left-handed pitcher Cliff Lee took the loss for Houston. The last-place Cardinals have won 4 consecutive games.
Early in the game, Valentin had a 2-run home run for St. Louis. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Cardinals on top, 2-0.
Houston manager Claybor Finley said: "We'll put this one in the trash can and get ready for the next game."
