Mathews Helps Expos Beat Mets, 7-4
|
Montreal third baseman Eddie Mathews had a 4-RBI game, which helped his team beat the New York (N) Mets, 7-4. Pat Caraway was the winner. Over 6.1 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. The winning continues for Montreal, with the latest triumph making it 8 straight.
With Montreal leading 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Mathews hit a fastball from Nabil Crismatt for a grand slam home run. It was his 16th home run of the season and put the Expos ahead, 7-0.
"Guys seem to be putting together some really nice at-bats right now," said Expos manager Marwan Najdawi.
