The Cleveland Guardians topped the New York (A) Yankees, 8-5, with youngster Hank Leiber playing a key role. Leiber went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Guardians in the win. The win was credited to 26-year old right-handed pitcher Cecil Upshaw in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Robert Garcia took the loss. With the loss, New York (A) falls to 2-3.

The Yankees had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Guardians going into the bottom of the seventh inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Julio Rodriguez came to the plate. Rodriguez hit a 2-run double on a full count fastball from New York (A) hurler Robert Garcia. It was Rodriguez's 2nd double of the year.

"It was our day today," Leiber told the Cleveland Herald. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
