Diamondbacks Win at Home, 5-1
|
Arizona pitcher Frank Baumann had a large part in his team subduing the Chicago (N) Cubs, 5-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Baumann, the winner, moves to 5-3. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. The save was credited to Dave Veres, his 7th.
Ron Hassey, who is a two-time All-Star, came through for Arizona with a 2-run double in the bottom of the fifth. The catcher went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 3 RBI.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Arizona manager Alex Baxter.
The Arizona winning streak has reached 3 games.
