Mariners Win, 6-4, Versus Texas
|
Seattle ruined an otherwise fine effort from Ken Chase by toppling Texas, 6-4. The Texas pitcher threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Rocky Coppinger, who led the AL in saves with 36 last year, was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Jonathan Hurst. Texas falls to 2-2.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Ted Kluszewski to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mariners on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It never gets old," said Kluszewski. "Winning, that is."
