Ruiz Belts Bunch of Base Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Keibert Ruiz, it came around today.
The 24-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Veterans Stadium to pace the 9-0 San Francisco Giants victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Philadelphia skipper Jason Spiegel told reporters in the press room that "Ruiz deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Ruiz hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Keibert Ruiz singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 9th.
Ruiz is batting .273 this season in 31 games with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He has 30 hits in 110 at-bats.
