New York (N) Tops Colorado , 2-0, Claims 2-1 Series Lead
|
Paul Erickson pitched a gem to help the New York (N) Mets escape with a tight, 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies in a low-scoring League Championship Series contest. The right-handed Erickson threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Mets on a day when their offense dried up. New York (N) now leads the best-of-7 series 2-1.
Erickson, a native of Zion, Illinois, was dealing all game. He kept Colorado hitters off-balance, while giving the Mets 8 quality innings. Erickson threw 122 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6.
"We're feeling good about this," said Mets manager Jamie Dagostini. "We have got an advantage now and we just need to keep the pressure on."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coors Field in Denver.
