Colorado right fielder Matt Kemp pounded New York (N) Mets pitchers at Shea Stadium, but it was not enough to keep the Rockies from falling, 8-7, in Game 1 of the League Championship Series. Kemp was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2, though he couldn't keep the Rockies from slipping to a 1-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series.

In the bottom of the fifth, New York (N) second baseman Billy Werber had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Werber stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 8-3, New York (N). For the game, he went 1 for 4.

"Every team in baseball loses," Rockies manager Ben Thompson said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shea Stadium in New York.
