The Seattle Mariners have a critical edge over the Minnesota Twins in the League Championship Series, thanks to the veteran arm of Sam Jones.

Jones, 33, put on a dominant performance at Metropolitan Stadium, leading the Mariners to victory, 3-1, in a pivotal Game 5. Seattle is now one game away from the World Series, leading the best-of-7 series by a margin of 3-2. Minnesota will need to win both remaining games to advance.

Jones delivered a quality start for Seattle. The 6-foot-4 right-hander allowed no earned runs on 4 hits over 6.2 innings of work.

"Sam approached every single pitch he made with total conviction," said Seattle manager Tyler Jorgensen.

Game 6 is scheduled for Monday at Rogers Centre in Seattle.
