White Sox Win, Move to Within 1 Game of League Championship Series
When he got to Chicago (A), Kevin Appier was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Divisional Series.

The 21-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the host Minnesota Twins, 4-0, in a remarkable performance at Metropolitan Stadium. With the win, the White Sox took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.

Appier, a native of Lancaster, California, was dealing all game. He kept Minnesota hitters off-balance, while giving the White Sox 7.2 quality innings. Appier threw 125 pitches, allowing 5 hits and striking out 10.

"It's so much easier when you throw good pitches," said Appier.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis.
