The Detroit Tigers started the Divisional Series in style, winning on the road against the Seattle Mariners at Rogers Centre by a score of 4-2 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Tigers left-hander Carl Hubbell threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball.

Detroit used a timely hit from Delino DeShields to get the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Detroit skipper Nick Puccio.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Rogers Centre in Seattle.
