Rivas Helps Phillies Defeat Giants, 7-3
|
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the San Francisco Giants, 7-3, with youngster Luis Rivas playing a key role. Rivas went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Phillies in the win. Joe Coleman got the win, improving to 5-2. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 0. Ken Howell nailed down his 8th save.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from left fielder Sixto Lezcano. For the game, Lezcano went 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead.
"I told our guys, 'Runs don't score by themselves,'" said Lezcano. "You need someone to get on base and someone to drive them in."
With the win, Philadelphia is 18-13.
