Diamondbacks Deal St. Louis 6-3 Defeat
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 6-3. Arizona first baseman Jim Bottomley deserved the lion's share of the credit. Bottomley hit 2 home runs for the Diamondbacks. Matt Young, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held St. Louis to 3 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. The setback makes the Cardinals 13-21.
Pete Ward, who finished 4th in the NL in OPS with 1.049 last year, helped out the Arizona cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the third baseman went 1 for 4.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Bottomley.
