8-4 Rockies Win over Red Sox Evens Season Record
|
The Colorado Rockies topped the Boston Red Sox, 8-4, in National League action at Coors Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Colorado pitcher Jerome Williams. The Red Sox fall to 12-17 and continue their rocky start to the 2001 season.
Jose Canseco, who finished 2nd in the NL in batting average with .336 in 1989, took Boston hurler Gary Bell deep in the bottom of the first. His 3-run home run put the Rockies on top, 5-3. In all, Canseco had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"Jerome went out and did what we needed," said Colorado manager Ben Thompson.
