San Francisco Downs Arizona, 4-2
|
The San Francisco Giants topped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-2, in National League action at Chase Field. The standout performance belonged to San Francisco pitcher and Tijuana, Mexico, native Esteban Loaiza. Loaiza, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. The Giants, now 3-0, have been playing some good baseball.
San Francisco used a clutch at-bat from Robin Ventura to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Giants ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Ventura told the San Francisco Chronicle.
