Adam LaRoche powered the Montreal Expos to a win over the Detroit Tigers. The final score was 9-5. The Montreal first baseman, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in hits with 35, was phenomenal. He stroked 3 extra-base hits, including 2 home runs and 1 double. With the win, Montreal goes to 15-10.

The Expos got a big hit from third baseman Eddie Mathews. Facing Detroit pitcher Ken Brett in the top of the fifth, Mathews pounded a 2-run home run to left. His 12th home run of the season put the Expos ahead, 4-3.

"We came out aggressive," said Expos manager Marwan Najdawi. "We came out swinging the bats."
