Boston Dealt 4-2 Defeat
The New York (N) Mets rode a solid performance from 37-year-old starting pitcher Ray Bare to a win, beating the Boston Red Sox, 4-2, at Shea Stadium. In 6.2 innings, Bare surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Bill Gogolewski was called on to finish, recording his 12th save.

Frank Robinson had a big 2-run double for the Mets in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New York (N) leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Aaron Small and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 3-0.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Bare.

Now 21-3, the 2001 Mets have been sensational so far.
