Yankees Win Nail-Biter
|
The New York (A) Yankees did just enough to sneak past the Detroit Tigers, 5-4, at Yankee Stadium. New York (A) pitcher Rich Nye, in particular, had a standout performance. Dave Von Ohlen, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The loss drops the Tigers to 1-2.
The Yankees got a clutch hit from left fielder Ben Francisco. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Yankees.
"Rich had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said New York (A) manager Brett Fogerson.
