Martinez Goes Deep Twice, Helps Rockies Top Cardinals, 6-4
Led by Fernando Martinez, the Colorado Rockies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-4. Martinez went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Rockies. Jim Golden earned the win for Colorado . He lasted 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 2-2. The Cardinals, now 6-16, continue their slow start.

Martinez had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 fastball from Johnny Welch, he banged a solo home run to center, giving the Rockies a 5-4 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Martinez.

"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said St. Louis manager David Mandel.
