Mets 5-4 Winners Versus Miami
|
The New York (N) Mets knocked off the Miami Marlins, 5-4, in National League action at Shea Stadium. New York (N) pitcher and Carthage, Missouri, native Carl Hubbell had an outstanding performance. Hubbell, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. Bill Gogolewski got credit for the save for New York (N). It was his 1st of the year.
Ha-seong Kim had a key at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the eighth for New York (N). With the bases loaded and the Mets leading 4-3, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
The Mets, now 2-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
